I’m so proud to announce the release of my latest interview with British heavy metal legends Judas Priest for A Journal of Musical Things! They’re currently on tour for their latest album Redeemer of Souls and I was lucky enough to get a phone chat with guitarist Glenn Tipton. We talked about whether or not the band has actually slowed down since their supposed final major world tour, and how I feel the new album is the most prog release of their entire career. Freshly published on A Journal of Musical Things is my new interview with Arkells frontman Max Kerman. Our chat took place before the celebrated indie rockers performed a Samsung-sponsored mall gig at Sherway Gardens. Mall concerts will always make me think of pop-star Tiffany. At the end of the summer Riot Fest returned to Toronto’s Downsview Park bigger and better than ever with a more diverse lineup and a ton of entertainment. My first of two interviews from the Fest is with Toronto rapper Jazz Cartier who turned in a ferocious thirty minute set after flying across the country to be there. We chatted about the new Soulfly album Archangel and why he’s not keen on being credited for having an influence on nineties nu-metal. Plus we discussed why he thinks Cavalera Conspiracy, the band he formed with his brother and fellow ex-Sep member Igor, better represents the original spirit of Sepultura than their old band’s current lineup.
