My latest interview for A Journal of Musical Things is a controversial chat with one-woman Danish black metal act Myrkur a.k.a. Amalie Bruun. We talked about her transition from indie pop act Ex Cops into heavy metal, and some of the misogynistic reactions from men she’s received on Facebook. It was the latter topic that moved the conversation in a surprising direction, as Bruun revealed that she’s far more worried about the proliferation of Islam in Europe than sexism in metal culture. One of my favourite interviews of late has been with Glass Tiger’s Alan Frew. In late August he sent a ripple of shock through the rock world when he announced that he had suffered a stroke. I sat down with him at Toronto’s Hard Rock Cafe to get a health update and talk about his new eighties covers album 80290 Rewind. The album is a real gem as Frew delivers passionate takes on tracks by Madonna, Peter Gabriel, Yes, and many more. I’m so proud to announce the release of my latest interview with British heavy metal legends Judas Priest for A Journal of Musical Things! They’re currently on tour for their latest album Redeemer of Souls and I was lucky enough to get a phone chat with guitarist Glenn Tipton. We talked about whether or not the band has actually slowed down since their supposed final major world tour, and how I feel the new album is the most prog release of their entire career.
